The Post's Michael Fletcher does a decent job in his Title IX story, Title IX Panel Acts Moderately, Recommendations Stop Short of Sweeping Change. Live quotes from both sides, etc. There's one particulary grating oversight. He lists the "three prongs" by which schools can theoretically satisfy Title IX without noting a major complaint: It's turned into only one prong, proportionality. The fact that feminists keep pushing until that goal is met, regardless of the levels of interest expressed by students, is how we got here in the first place.

Complaints by the usual suspects such as the Women's Sports Foundation (which was on the panel, unlike say the College Sports Council) that this is calamitous for female athletes are way over the top.
"We are deeply troubled by the commission's action," said Jocelyn Samuels, vice president of the Washington-based National Women's Law Center. "This authorizes the secretary of education to radically restructure current practices. . . . The proposals recommended are every bit as damaging as any that have been put on the table."

As I said yesterday there are important improvements that will restore a great degree of fairness but only if they are all implemented, and diligently.
