Title IX update... John Rosenberg at Discriminations cites a Chronicle of Higher Education story (accessible only to subscribers, unfortunately) and says it reports that:

"how colleges measure gender equity in sports could change drastically" if the Dept. of Education "adopts any of the recommendations discussed by an advisory panel" that met in Philadelphia yesterday...

Can't tell which way that would swing, though it's hard to imagine more draconian quotas being enforced. I'll see what else I can find out.

UPDATE: Not much. Here's a necessarily bland statement from Education Secretary Rod Paige, which includes the following:

No doubt about it: This is a difficult issue - a fact made all the more clear in an excellent 60 Minutes piece on Sunday. Some of you weighed in on the complexities of this issue. And that debate highlighted the importance of ensuring that this good law - that represents hope to so many Americans -- is fairly enforced.

I missed that 60 minutes piece, unfortunately, driving back from Thankgiving weekend.

The next meeting is Jan. 8, in Washington; then the report is due Jan. 31. How time flies.

UPDATE: This could be good--a list of transcripts from past meetings, both in Adobe and Word. The latest meeting isn't up yet, but still.
