Sports Fraud Update... Suzy Whaley has decided to play in the (men's) PGA event, the Greater Hartford Open, for which she qualified by playing a shorter course than the men she "beat." Today, Leonard Shapiro quotes Whaley:
"I think what I'm doing is a feel-good golf story," she said. "I'm very proud to be one of the really great golf stories of the year. No matter what happens, that's how I'll always look at it."
Pity. Seems like everyone around her is supportive. Annika Sorenstam, too.
Remember, as Bernard Goldberg said recently, feminism isn't about equality, it's about more opportunities for women. If you follow that guiding principle to its conclusion, it explains everything from Title IX gender quotas to farcical events like this.
Shapiro couldn't find anyone to advance the principled argument against Whaley's decision, and I know he looked very, very hard.
