I'm Lotted-out. Last night on BET he basically repudiated principled conservative positions against affirmative action and other forms of racial discrimination, and suggested the entire Republican party must climb out of the medieval past......I think he's projecting.

Pretty dismal performance by the pundocracy on NPR's Diane Rehm show this morning, too. Norman Ornstein and an ABC reporter basically assumed that playing the race card is a uniquely conservative enterprise, so the Lott dilemma is payback. Bill Kristol put up a nearly reasonable defense. When I think about the ads than ran in Texas during the 2000 election that all but charged Bush with supporting the murder of black people, it really makes me wonder about Ornstein. An ABC reporter, sure, I'd expect her to live in the cocoon. But Ornstein? Pity.

UPDATE: It goes without saying, almost, that Rehm was sanctimonious as well, in that ignorant Yankee kind of way. And one caller complained that Bill Kristol was even allowed on the panel! That's the liberal procedure. Agree, shut up or stay home. Of course, Kristol was one of the first to condemn Lott's remarks, and conservative pundits in general were way out in front on this one. That may not have penetrated the cocoon, however.
