So here's a story on gun control, in this case focusing on ballistic fingerprinting. It's not half bad in covering different viewpoints given the space allowed. But the Post continues to be blind to the fact that groups like the National Rifle Association represent me and millions of other Americans.

The skeptical statements about ballistic fingerprinting by White House press secretary Ari Fleischer put the administration on the side of the gun industry at a time when national news is dominated by a Washington area sniper who has killed nine people in two weeks.

Nicely spun.

The administration position is similar to the one taken by two top officials of the National Rifle Association, Wayne LaPierre and James Jay Baker, who wrote in their recent book "Shooting Straight" that ballistic fingerprinting is "registration by another name." The NRA officials wrote that the number of matches the technology has made between criminals and crimes has been "a big fat zero," and said the prevalent use of stolen guns in crimes means a database "would only connect lawful gun owners to crimes they did not commit."

In the skewed universe of the Post, the NRA is Not One Of Us, so this is a little example of guilt by association.
