Not In The Post Watch... From Cybercast News Service: Wrestlers' Group Complains of Quotas in Fed Athletic Funding:

(CNSNews.com) - A college wrestling association told a federal judge Tuesday that its lawsuit against the government must proceed or colleges will continue to run their athletic programs under a quota system unfair to male athletes.

The case, brought by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, provides a new legal challenge to Title IX, the 30-year-old federal law that bans sex discrimination in education, including high school and college athletics.

Proponents of the law argue it is needed to give female athletes an equal opportunity to their male counterparts. But some groups, like the wrestlers in this case, claim the government's Title IX compliance policy has harmed smaller male-dominated sports through the use of a quota system.

At issue before U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan Tuesday was a motion by the Department of Education to dismiss the lawsuit.

Lawrence J. Joseph, an attorney for the wrestlers' group, told Sullivan the education department illegally adopted the policy on Title IX compliance, which has led colleges and universities to institute a quota system.

"There is a quota system based on enrollment," Joseph said. "Sports teams add up to female attendance and male attendance, which is based on the total enrollment of women and men."

The story quotes the National Women's Law Center to the effect that a quota is not in place, partly because of the "three-pronged test," but as I've pointed out before the authorities pushing the quota never rest until the quota is met.
