Cow This! As for this editorial Thursday on more gun restrictions (I think the Post is in favor of them), I love it when these guys refer to the NRA as a vaguely illegitimate aberration that keeps interfering with the nation's politics:

Thanks to aggressive marketing by the gun industry and the political muscle of its strongest lobby, the National Rifle Association, plenty of legal loopholes make buying a snap....

Requirements that gun manufacturers provide authorities with spent shell casings for all weapons could improve the tracking of firearms from original sales to the hands of criminals. But only Maryland and New York have begun setting up ballistic fingerprint systems. A national file would be especially useful; but Congress, cowed by NRA opposition, hasn't touched it...


Hey buddy, it's my Constitutional right to "cow" Congress, which is kinda the point of representative government, and since I can't do it by myself every day we have groups like the NRA. They represent me, and it pains me to point out again that millions upon millions of Americans agree more often with the NRA than the Washington Post, not that its editors would know this from the little cocoon they inhabit.
