This here piece by Bruce Thornton over at David Horowitz's FrontPageMag.com on the reluctance of mainstream media to take on the gay angle of the Catholic sex-abuse scandal is what I was looking for when, in abject desperation and a foreboding sense of doom, I gave up and posted Rod Dreher instead. I don't agree with every point in Thornton's column but he's got the media angle down pretty well:

When a minority rightly demands full inclusion into democratic citizenship, it must accept as well that it will be subject to the same open scrutiny and discussion of its behavior and interests that the majority is subject to. It cannot put off limits any topic just because discussion will harm its interests or make it uncomfortable. Democracy demands that citizens who will be called upon to make decisions with their votes have as much truthful information as possible....

Suffice it to say the media have at best selectively fulfilled this charge, particularly when it comes to issues dear to their ideological hearts...

If you've got a minute, it's worth a look.
