Ombudgsgod has a good quick recap of another part of Michael Getler's latest column, in which, in additon to his gringo-proofing, he dismissed complaints by the lefty advocacy group FAIR that the Post was ignoring dissent against President Bush:

As reported by Glenn Reynolds, FAIR gets a smack-down by Washington Post ombudsman Michael Getler. It seems that FAIR "took off" after The Post (generally known as the Democratic paper in Washington) and a reporter for allegedly "covering up dissent against [Republican President] Bush” at the commencement speech he gave at Ohio State University. It turns out there was less, a lot less, to the story than FAIR alleged. The visible dissent appears to have consisted of the 30 demonstrators The Columbus Dispatch reported seeing outside the stadium during Bush’s speech. There's more to the story -- check it out.

This is not the first time FAIR has been tagged for their creative approach to the news. My favorite example is the totally fictitious connection between the Superbowl and domestic violence they publicized. Exposed as a fraud by Washington Post reporter Ken Ringle, it is still repeated by advocates and lazy reporters every year around Super Bowl time.

Yeah, I'd forgotten that Post outlier Ken Ringle was the one who first exposed the Superbowl hoax.
