MAYBE SOMETHING WAS LOST IN THE TRANSLATION...A strange short dispatch "from news services" filling out the top of A16 ledes with the hed, Afghan Mistakenly Accused of Threat at Airport:
ORLANDO -- A former president of Afghanistan was removed from a trans-Atlantic flight when security screeners in Florida mistakenly interpreted a comment he made as a threat, the FBI said yesterday.
Okay, that's embarassing.
Airport security screeners said they heard him speak about an Islamic liberation organization and say, "I know you're looking for a bomb" and "God will revenge this," according to police.
Those screeners! Picky, picky, picky.
The comments were made in English but misinterpreted by the screeners, neither of whom spoke English as a first language.
I wonder if the screeners mistakenly thought the fellow mentioned an "Islamic liberation organization," said "I know you're looking for a bomb" and then "God will revenge this." But if that's what he said, raise your hand if you want to fly on that plane.
