In Dems We Trust...Republicans, unique among politicians, try to use this week's Pledge Of Allegiance ruling to partisan advantage in this David Von Drehle story:

Judge Blocks Pledge Decision During Appeals --

Republicans Seek Political Gain, But Ruling Spurs Bipartisan Ire

Sometimes headline writers screw up a good story with a misleading headline; above I am awkwardly trying to show the headline and the subhed. But it's there in the story:

From President Bush on down, GOP leaders tried to turn the ruling into a political weapon, but Democrats and liberal interest groups refused to play along. No elected official in Washington from either party and no prominent figure in state or local government could be found publicly defending the decision.

GOP denounces decision--Republicans Seek Political Gain

Democrats denounce decision--Democrats and liberal interest groups refuse to play along.

Okay, got it.
